FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Business & Data Analytics (BDA) course beginner-friendly?

Yes, the course is beginner-friendly and suitable for learners with no prior data experience. It’s ideal for those looking to build core data skills or apply data insights in roles like HR, finance, operations and more, using platforms such as Excel, SQL, Python, GenAI and low-code/no-code tools. While no prior statistics knowledge is required, the programme will introduce essential foundational concepts to support your learning and application throughout the course.

As part of the enrolment process, learners are expected to complete a BDA aptitude test. While passing the test is not an entry requirement, it helps you assess your current understanding and identify areas to strengthen before the course begins. We encourage learners to revisit the provided preparatory materials when completing the test to set themselves up for success in the programme.

  • What roles do the Business & Data Analytics (BDA) course prepare me for?

The BDA course equips you for roles such as Data Analyst, Functional Analyst, Business Analyst, Operations Analyst, and other data-driven positions across industries. You’ll be prepared to work in technical data roles and apply analytics in business functions like HR, finance, operations, supply chain and more.
  • What are the differences between the BDA Full-time and Part-Time courses?

BDA Full-time lessons take place on Mondays to Fridays from 9AM to 1PM, and is more suitable for learners who are not engaged in full-time employment, or are able to commit to the learning schedule on weekdays during usual working hours. As the full-time program strives to fast-track learners’ upskilling journey, the pacing of the full-time program will be faster as lessons take place daily, with mechanisms built in to ensure a sustainable learning progress.

BDA Part-time lessons take place on two weekday evenings (either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday, 7PM to 10PM) and Saturdays (either 9AM to 12PM, or 1PM to 4PM), and is better suited for learners engaged in full-time employment, or are only able commit to the learning schedule outside of usual working hours. The part-time program pacing is more moderated to cater to working professionals.

  • What are the software and technical requirements for this course?

Learners will need a laptop to join Zoom classes.

A Windows laptop is COMPULSORY, as Microsoft Power BI Desktop will be used as part of BDA’s core curriculum, and it is not supported on Mac.

    Laptop Requirements:
    – Operating System: Windows 11 (64-bit only; 32-bit and ARM are not supported)
    – RAM: Minimum 8GB (16GB recommended, especially for running applications like Power BI Desktop)
    – External monitor: Recommended (but not compulsory) to optimise learning experience

Note: For Mac users, please ensure you have access to a Windows laptop for the duration of the BDA program. Please note that BCG is unable to provide or issue hardware to learners.

    Software Requirements:
    – Microsoft Excel (Office 365 or Excel 2010 and above)
    – Google Chrome Browser (recommended for best experience with BCG RISE learning platforms)

    Note:
    – Google Sheets or similar alternatives are not supported
    – Excel Online version does not support many required functions and will not allow you to save work properly unless you have a valid license

  • Do I need to spend additional time outside of class for revision?

Yes. While the BDA program is designed to be highly structured and applied, learners are recommended to spend approximately 5–10 hours per week on revision, practice, and assignments.

This self-study time is essential to reinforce technical concepts, build fluency with analytics tools, and successfully complete hands-on exercises. The exact time required will vary by individual background, but regular practice between sessions is strongly recommended to maximize learning outcomes.

  • Do I need to spend time outside of class for group work?

The course is designed to include dedicated working sessions during class time for group collaboration on projects and presentations. These sessions allow you to align, divide tasks, and make meaningful progress together with support from instructors. However, depending on the scope of the assignment and your group’s pace, you may occasionally need to spend additional time outside of class to refine your work, complete outstanding tasks, or polish your final presentation. This balance mirrors real-world project workflows and helps you build practical teamwork and communication skills.

  • Will I receive a certificate at the end of the course?

Yes, you will receive a RISE by BCG U certificate upon completing the course, provided you meet the minimum attendance and assessment requirements. The certificate is OpenCert verifiable and can be shared on LinkedIn. In addition, digital badges are awarded to top-performing learners in projects, which can also be showcased on LinkedIn.
