FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Business & Data Analytics (BDA) course beginner-friendly?

Yes, the course is beginner-friendly and suitable for learners with no prior data experience. It’s ideal for those looking to build core data skills or apply data insights in roles like HR, finance, or operations using platforms such as Excel, SQL, Python, and low-code/no-code tools. While no prior statistics knowledge is required, the programme will introduce essential foundational concepts to support your learning and application throughout the course.

As part of the enrolment process, learners are expected to complete a BDA aptitude test. While passing the test is not an entry requirement, it helps you assess your current understanding and identify areas to strengthen before the course begins. We encourage learners to revisit the provided preparatory materials when completing the test to set themselves up for success in the programme.

  • What roles do the Business & Data Analytics (BDA) course prepare me for?

The BDA course equips you for roles such as Data Analyst, Functional Analyst, Business Analyst, Operations Analyst, and other data-driven positions across industries. You’ll be prepared to work in technical data roles and apply analytics in business functions like HR, finance, operations, or supply chain.

  • What’s the difference between the Data Analyst and Functional Analyst track under the BDA Part-Time course?

*Under the BDA Part-Time course, the two tracks (Data Analyst and Functional Analyst) teach core data skills and tools, but they differ in focus and application.

The Data Analyst track is more technical, covering end-to-end data workflows using tools like Python, SQL, and Power BI—ideal for learners exploring careers in data.

The Functional Analyst track is designed for professionals in fields like finance, HR, or supply chain, focusing on applying data insights within those domains using both programmatic and low-code/no-code tools.

  • What are the software and technical requirements for this course?

Learners will need a laptop to join Zoom classes.

A Windows laptop is preferred, but a Mac can also be used with some additional setup.

    Laptop Requirements:

    • Operating System: Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit only; 32-bit and ARM are not supported)

    • RAM: Minimum 8GB (16GB recommended, especially for running applications like Power BI)

    • Mac users: A virtual machine (VM) is required to install and run Power BI, which is not natively supported on macOS. You will receive support during the course to complete the setup.

    Software Requirements:

    • Microsoft Excel (Office 365 or Excel 2010 and above)

    • Google Sheets or similar alternatives are not supported

    • The Excel Online version does not support many required functions and will not allow you to save work properly unless you have a valid license

Important for Mac users: You’ll need to install a VM and Power BI within that environment. Full installation support will be provided during the course.

  • Do I need to spend time outside of class for group work?

The course is designed to include dedicated working sessions during class time for group collaboration on projects and presentations. These sessions allow you to align, divide tasks, and make meaningful progress together with support from instructors. However, depending on the scope of the assignment and your group’s pace, you may occasionally need to spend additional time outside of class to refine your work, complete outstanding tasks, or polish your final presentation. This balance mirrors real-world project workflows and helps you build practical teamwork and communication skills.

  • Will I receive a certificate at the end of the course?

Yes, you will receive a RISE by BCG U certificate upon completing the course, provided you meet the minimum attendance and assessment requirements. The certificate is OpenCert verifiable and can be shared on LinkedIn. In addition, digital badges are awarded to top-performing learners in projects, which can also be showcased on LinkedIn.
